11/7/2006 Let fondness be our souvenir, to keep it warm we'll keep it nearI've moved my Blog HQ to seventhniles.blogspot.com. I blame Jason Deuman.
Really, though, I never do anything on here but blog, so I figured I'd go someplace that loads within the hour. 11/6/2006 So I say, your deliverance is comingWow. What a busy month. I can't believe how insane I am. I've got oodles of homework to attend to, a novel to write (nanowrimo.org), sleep to get, and a social life to keep up. Okay, so maybe I don't have much of a social life, but small is better than nonexistent, right? We started reading The Hobbit in English class, which brings back some interesting memories as well as reminding me how much I love the book. Our XC team went to State! The girls scored eleventh out of sixteen, which is good for our school's level. Only one guy made it. Frown.
I purchased a used laptop computer, which I am currently using. It's mega-omega-cool. My very own Windows OS! This is a major milestone for me. Now other people will have a chance to employ the services of a computer without heading down to the library.
One-acts have started! My character's name is Foghorn Redburn. I'm not sure what the significance of that is, but I'm sure there's something. I'm a grumpy, persnickety stage coach driver who has a temper to be proud of and a tattered hat that's older than my current set of teeth. Whatever that means.
CPC is taking us to see the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit. I really, really, really, etc. want to go. It sounds really cool. Also, when am I going to get this chance ever again? The scrolls can only be displayed for a short time before they're put away for a few years in a dark, cold room. I have to personify them and cheer them up. They might be afraid of the dark.
What does cornobble mean, anyway?
~ Jesse M. Burke 10/27/2006 Arise, and face the fears you have, and roar but never tire...I'm slightly horrified at the lack of proper grammar and spelling that's flying around these days, even in Honors English classes. Seriously, folks, don't you ever read a work of literature?? Yes, there is a difference between "there", "their", and "they're". No, "illicit" is not the same as "elicit". In fact, they are different parts of speech. You can whine about how it doesn't make sense, but it won't change the rules. Sorry to shatter your little bubble of blogdom. Actually, I'm not. I rather enjoy it. Mwaha. [/rant] ∞ Jesse, teh bestest uf tham aul. 10/26/2006 My ego just got shattered.Check it out. I'm not unique. 10/13/2006 Happy Friday the 13th!!!"My name is Luck, this is my song/I happened by while you were gone/Oh well, I apologize that I could not stay/But I hope good things come your way/I know they will, here's your horseshoe/So best of luck to you." My legs hurt. Ouch. I like music. Anways, school is fun but exhausting. I've been forced to think about things a lot more thoroughly this year, re-evaluating my friendships and places where I need friendships. It's been hard, but very helpful. The chapels have so far been spectacular, really providing excellent worship and innovative, relevant teaching. I think God has taught me many, many new things in and through chapel. Cross-country has been deadly but exhilarating. I set a major personal record at our Marymoor Park meet, beating my previous time by almost two minutes. The results haven't been posted on the website, though. Yearbook is a crazy-cool class, providing me with a nice dose of frenzied rushing and stress right before lunch. I can't really complain, however, seeing as how I've only gotten minor jobs so far. Yay for layouts. We jumped beyond exercises in Drama, into the exciting world of Theater Scene Work Week, in which we perform a scene from a play, rehearsing for a week beforehand. After this, it's only a week of exercises, and then we plunge directly into One-Acts. World History has provided me with a constant stream of information, most of it interesting. Lately, I've been reading Don't Know Much About The Universe: Everything You Need To Know About Outer Space But Never Learned, which is pretty elementary, but it's interesting because it tells the human perspective of the universe, so it goes into the history of astronomy for the whole first chapter. I've also been reading State of Fear, another book by Michael Crichton. So yeah, life's been hectic. Speedily fast-paced, if that makes any sense. My glasses got broken today, and not by me. I was walking up the stairs at school, when the person in front of me suddenly backed up and jammed their backpack into my face. Yowch. In other news, I'm done typing. Go read some political commentary or something. It's not like there's an absence of it. ∞ Jesse 9/23/2006 Couldn't ask for a better day, two by twoSalutations. Right now my legs hurt because I ran six miles at XC practice today. Ouch. I just got back from HS Retreat yesterday, which was incredible. I've never seen anyone play chords on a bass guitar before. Yay for Ricky Shimono. The speaker was Jeremy Johnson, a funny and engaging speaker who had some great ideas. Mix that up with the monumental talent show and plenty of wandering around the campus, and you get 24 hours of sweetness that is unrivalled throughout the school year. Lately I've been listening to the albums Echo Echo by Carbon Leaf and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb by U2, both wonderful. I've run out of things to say, so maybe I'll just start ranting. I wonder what dogs think about. Maybe they're planning to take over the world with their subversive devotion. Maybe they just like our food, so they can't afford to dispose of us yet. Frightening theories going on here, people. Lock your doors! Hide your food! Block that doggy door! The hounds are coming! Bleh, er, say, no, uh, yeah... ∞ Jesse 9/8/2006 You're not the only one who's happy to go blindHowdy, strangers. Life is busy, death is painful. I choose busy. Now that I've depressed you, allow me to tell you about a fantastic book. Taliesin by Stephen R. Lawhead is the story of a man. A man with blond hair. But seriously, it's a sweet book, and one of the only books that I have actually come close to crying while reading. That's right. Me, crying. It's a sad book. I'm sorry. Still, it's a crazy good book, and you must read it. Now. Now I will quote the opening poem: Ten rings there are, and nine gold torcs on the battlechiefs of old; Eight princely virtues, and seven sins for which a soul is sold; Six is the sum of earth and sky of all things meek and bold; Five is the number of ships that sailed from Atlantis lost and cold; Four kings of the Westerland were saved three kingdoms now behold; Two came together in love and fear in Llyonesse stronghold; One world there is, one God, and one birth the Druid stars foretold. -- S. R. L. Oxford, England, 1987 Thanks for reading that, if you actually did. I'm all tired from cross-country. I'm gonna go get dinner. Yum. ∞ Jesse 8/30/2006 This is the bomb that I've been waiting for, living forGreetings, chaps and chapettes. It's been a while. Maybe. Life is good, and so is sleep. School starts tomorrow. Bah homework! Music is nice when it's good, but bad when it's bad. I'm just full of exciting and profound statements today. Anyways, I'm currently listening to "Might Have Ben Hur" by Switchfoot from "The Legend of Chin". Happy stuff. Not much goin' on, except that school is still starting tomorrow, no matter how much I try to ignore it. And how do I spend my last day of freedom? Reading mythology. Yay. Charlemagne. I hope you guys all helped save the internet. If you didn't, I'm ever so disappointed. By the way, I switched classes, so now I'm in Yearbook class. Double yay. It'll be a nice little outlet to get out some extra creativity and energy and stress and hectic frenzy. I've decided I need to convince my dad to get iLife so I can put up some new pictures. Yes, I am a Macintosh user. Cry about it. I'm also not wasting money on virus protection software. Die, Norton! Ha! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go boil my head in a Windows BSOD (blue screen of death). Gloatingly not yours, ∞ Jesse 8/20/2006 You're stuck in my head...Just a quick update for some public announcements. Now that I'm here, I can't think of anything to say. OH WAIT! I was in the Shoreline parade yesterday! I held a sign to promote the library. So yeah, I'm famous now. Bow to me. Oh, wait. Just thought I'd let everyone out there know about this: savetheinternet.com And that concludes our brief session. Thank you. Winnie the Pooh says Hi. ∞ Jesse 8/12/2006 If you want to kiss the sky, better learn how to kneelWhew! I'm back from vacation. We went down to Bandon, Oregon, for a fun-filled week of sand and bands, man! Um... okay. I don't know where that came from. Oh wait, my brain. Right. Well, nice talkin' to y'all. Even though I'm typing. I got to see my cousins and my other relatives, and I learned to play Russian rummy. Yay! Bandon was just as good as it has been in previous years, and I have plenty of pictures that I will put as soon as my computer stops being dumb and my dad buys iLife. Maybe I should help him. Maybe ducks are aliens who are performing elaborate experiments on us. Saaaaaaaay..... nah. Well, I'm gonna go eat. Oh, school's coming. ∞ Jesse 7/25/2006 It's always summer, but never ChristmasGrargh. Just an opening sound to get your attention, nothing more. To start, I'd like to apologize for the obvious lack of pictures. I know you all like to look at me. Anyways, life's been hectic. I've been sleeping in like crazy, and I've read two books in the past two days: Congo and The Terminal Man, both by Michael Crichton (rhymes with "frighten"). I also discovered I have a strong aversion to work of any kind during the summer. Why can't it ever be Christmas? Meh. (heehee.) I can't think of anything else to tell you guys. Not that anyone ever reads this. I suppose I should write something just in case the President happens to skip onto my page, but what? I could just be cynical about something. Maybe he'd hire me. Whoa, that was kinda cynical in itself. Oh well. I'm gonna go do something that's not a waste of time, like throw pencils against the wall. OoOoOoOhhhh... Sincerely, Jesse, Administrator, Department of Cynicism, Federal Bureau of Investigation 7/16/2006 I thought my eyes were gonna get off clean'til I read your lips on the TV screen Howdy all, it's been a while. I've been busy. Get over it. You just wish you had a life like mine. Meh. Anyways, I have returned from CILT/summer camp, and I have to say... BOY, AM I TIRED!!! I accidentally stayed up too late last night. And all last week. Tomorrow I leave to go canoeing on Ross Lake. I got new sunglasses. Now you REALLY wish you had my life. And my sunglasses. Haha. Ennyhoo, the canoeing trip should be fun, but just think... I'll be completely seperated from society for a whole week! I don't think my toes can handle all the tedium. Ah, they'll get over it. I got a new T-shirt that says "geekier than thou" on it for an early birthday present. Oh yeah, my birthday is on Tuesday in two days!! Oooh, semantics!! I expect presents when I get back. That means you, Mr. Procrastinator. I don't know who that is, but he's out there somewhere. Tune in next week for an exciting new episode entitled "The Quest for Mr. Procrastinator and his Magic Bowl of Haggis"!! Indefatigably (yeah right), ∞ Jesse 6/25/2006 Our house is a very, very fine houseHEY! I just got back from a sweet, sweet weekend at Lake Chelan with the boys. Nothing but airsoft, steak, and swimming. I'm like, hecka tired. I only got two hours of sleep the first night, and nine or ten the second night. I can't really think right now, so please pardon if I start drifting like a small raft of no sleep on the ocean of life. Um, yeah.... Not much else is happening in life right now. I got a new airsoft rifle that shoots like a real gun and hurts twice as bad. Not really, but it's super sweet. I started playing piano again. I hope to get good enough to be in a band, but it's a long shot. I just hope that if I do get in a band, the songwriter's better than me at rhyme 'n' rhythm. It's kinda sad how I can fill a trash can in five minutes. Anyways, I should probably go. Adios. ....snakesssssssss..... ∞ Jesse 6/13/2006 Fly from the sheath into my pawI am the greatest ThunderCat of them all: I'm Lion-O. I only have time for a brief update, so here goes. School's out! Stocks are up! Disco is down! Yay! Anyways, yeah. Yeah. Yup. I've been sleeping. Lots. Yup. I got Xbox Live, which rocks my socks. I bet YOU don't have Xbox Live. Haha. Noob. Well, I'm done. ∞ Jesse 6/8/2006 "Play the man, Master Ridley,""we shall this day light such a candle, by God's grace, in England, as I trust shall never be put out." Hello, anyone out there who is reading this. Finals are over, and not really anything is happening at school. I've read two books in the past two days: 2001: A Space Oddysey and Farenheit 451, both of which were excellent. School officially ends tomorrow, and this weekend I am going to the first part of my CILT training. Not much else is happening, however. I've just been puttering around my little world, thinking about nothing in particular and doing the same. Just in case y'all were wondering, yes, I still love Skittles. I just haven't eaten any recently. I had some on Tuesday night. There were these weird pink ones that were like strawberry ice cream flavored or something. They tasted fine, it just surprised me when I put one in my mouth without looking, and I was all like, "Bleaaaargh! Strawberry ice creeeeeaaaaaam! I think I'll eat moooooooore!" So anyways, that's my little Skittles adventure for the week. Tune in next time to hear me play "Mary Had A Little Lamb" with only my nose, a felt-tipped marker, and an electrical socket!!! ∞ Jesse B. 6/1/2006 Double, double, toil and trouble...Making mushroom brew, I am. Lots of stuff happened this week. I performed in my one-act as Grumpy the dwarf, which went pretty good. Earlier today I went to the Freshman Toga Party and ate lots of pizza. Also, I accepted Academic Awards for three classes: Physical Science, Bible, and Geography. Yay! Happy me! Arr! Anyways, I'm in a good mood, mostly because of sugar and other stimulants, like computers. I got my first look at a tablet today, which was sweet. Yeah. Life is sweet. Like tablet computers and orange togas. And DUCKLINGS!!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!! ducklings... ∞ Jesse B. 5/24/2006 The fans are screaming...I'm back. Did you miss me? No. Oh well. Not much happening right now. Finals are coming up ( Sad... Jesse 5/8/2006 An Enemy of the PeopleCurrent music: "Soul Meets Body" by Death Cab For Cutie Wow. I saw my school's spring play, An Enemy of the People, on Friday. It was very powerful and moving. Shattered glass, color symbolism, and stunning acting blended together into a giant glob of low-fat artificial butter. Somehow. Anyhow, it was really good. I'm not sure what else I can say. I got a really good idea for a short story last night, which makes me mad, 'cause we already wrote our short stories for school, and this would be way better than my lame story about a house. School happened again today. Which is to be expected, but not necessarily looked forward to. No, seriously, I don't mind school. It just cuts into my sleeping time. Not that I slept a ton before school. I think I'm in "rant" mode right now. Now I'm in "get off the internet and play something that is a big waste of time or else I might explode" mode. Explode mode. Hmph. Bye. Signed, (Signature) 5/4/2006 Blogging is facetious...Well everyone, or rather, only one, I now begin the great waste of time that is blogging. Ah well, everything is or isn't a waste of time in the end, so I guess that makes sense to someone. So, I just finished Ender's Game, a great political/moral/social thriller with a little SPARTAN II thrown in. I also read the Bible aloud in an empty room for an hour as part of my church's Creekside 24. That was fun. On a different note, sometimes I wonder why people do things that are so amazingly odd and weird. Do humans have some sort of insanity that randomly takes over and then leaves no traces? Or are we just weird? I don't know. Stop asking these silly questions. Go away. No, wait, come back, I'm bored. You have now been forced to read the rest of my thoroughly pointless blog. Ahahaha, this is the end, heehee. Jesse 4/19/2006 Ramblings...Well, not much is going on in my life right now. I've been listening to too much music, eating too much food, and in general just being myself. My NSB(nerdiness status bar) has gone way up lately. I recently spent a couple hours on one website, even though it was almost midnight. Spring Break must be affecting me. My sister suggested to me starting a math club, and that gave me a couple nerd points, as well as minor depression. Anyways, Easter was fun, as I(obviously) got more candy than anyone else. I will eventually expand the pictures and stuff here, but nobody has told me to yet, so I'm stalling. Wow, I can type for a long time about nothing at all. I'm going to go get a life. Nah, never mind. Bye, Jesse |
